Summer Reading List

Dear Parents:

In the Reading Lists Links box you will find the required summer reading list for grades 6-12. Tests will be given over the required reading during the first week of the new school year. The titles that have been chosen are primarily common classic titles. The selections that are in the public domain can be freely read and/or downloaded at gutenberg.org. A link is provided on the individual grade pages. If you have any trouble locating any of these selections, please contact the school office (817.332.3351) and leave a message for Nicole Caylor (grades 9-12) or Nichelle Docken (grades 6-8) no later than July 15. Otherwise, completion of the reading assignments will be expected by the first week of school.

Each student is required to read two of the three selections for the grade that he will be entering next year. If a student has previously read more than one of the choices, please contact the teachers mentioned above before July 15 and the student will be assigned an alternate book or books.

Students are encouraged to begin reading these selections as early as possible. This will ensure that the student has plenty of time to complete the assignment. Although these selections are considered timeless classics, we cannot wholly endorse everything contained within them. Please use your discretion in order to decide on the most appropriate selections for your child. If you are not comfortable with one or more of the choices, contact the previously mentioned teachers for alternate books.

Thank you for your support of the English department at Calvary Christian Academy. It is our desire to expose your young person to as much quality literature as possible and to encourage a lifelong reading habit. If you have any questions regarding this assignment, do not hesitate to call.
