National Honor Society

Students who have maintained a grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, with no grade lower than a C, appropriate conduct grades, and a nomination by a board of faculty members will be eligible to participate in the National Junior High and National Honor Society. There is an individual student fee of $15.00 per student for chapter dues. Students will participate in a service project that will require a high level of commitment. There will be a special induction ceremony to recognize all Honor Society students. Students will be dropped from the NCHS if at any time a semester grade average falls below a 3.5 with no grade lower than a C or if conduct deems it necessary.

Honor Society Project Descriptions:

Peer Tutoring

The National Honor Society students make themselves available for tutoring students who are in need of academic enrichment in all subject areas and grade levels. This is a valuable service that they provide to the students of Calvary Christian Academy.

Food Drive

For many years the Honor Students have sponsored a canned food drive for the inner city youth and their families. The food bank at Calvary Cathedral International feeds many families per week and due to the generosity of the students of Calvary Christian Academy the cupboards are rarely empty. Students this year alone provided more than 56,000 canned items to needy families.

Fortress Youth Development Center

Fortress offers programs designed to help children ages 18 months to 8th grade break the cycle of generational poverty and oppression. During after-school programs students will learn literacy and math skills, have the opportunity to receive help with homework, be encouraged to express their creativity, develop a meaningful relationship with a personal mentor, enjoy a home-cooked dinner each day, go on field trips, and much more. Calvary Christian Academy National Junior High and National Honor Society students work in the after school program at scheduled times throughout the school year.

All of these projects add service hours to the student's community service record.
