Art
(Kindergarten-Grade 6)
Art provides students with the opportunity to develop their own creativity, express themselves and glorify God through their art work. Students are exposed to a wide range of art media, are taught how to manipulate various tools and materials, and they learn to identify and use the elements of art and principles of design in creative ways. Students learn to see detail of line, shape, pattern, texture, and color. Art history and art appreciation are incorporated into the lessons.
Band
(Grade 6)
In this course, the band student will learn the basic techniques necessary to play an instrument competently. These skills include note and rhythm reading, playing in tune, listening and blending with one's neighbor or ensemble group, articulation, breath control, watching the conductor, and recognizing and following musical directions noted on the music. These skills will be developed and improved as the student prepares for various performances both ministry related and performance related.
Music
(Kindergarten-Grade 5)
This course encompasses a collection of songs and music activities dedicated to instilling praise and worship in the lives of children, and teaching children to express themselves to God. The music program provides students with opportunities to have "hands-on" and heartfelt experiences in praise and worship, and encourages them to share their faith in Jesus Christ with others. Students are taught basic rhythm, dynamics, note values, names of notes, music symbols, and skills of conducting music. Students are introduced to composers of the Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Impressionistic periods. The music classes present two outstanding musicals, the Christmas Program and Spring Program.
Junior High School
Art
(6th- 8th Grade)
This class covers the elements and principles of design through the use of a wide variety of materials. The student will learn that art is an integral part of our society and a powerful tool of communication in their ministry. Emphasis will also be placed on art history and art appreciation.
Band
(6th- 8th Grade)
In this course, the band student will build on the basic techniques necessary to play an instrument competently. These skills include note and rhythm reading, playing in tune, listening and blending with one?s neighbor or ensemble group, articulation, breath control, watching the conductor, and recognizing and following musical directions noted on the music. These skills will be developed and improved as the student prepares for various performances both ministry related and performance related.
Choir
(6th- 8th Grade)
This is an elective dedicated to the instruction of correct vocal technique, expansion in the understanding of music theory and its application vocally, and the pure enjoyment and pleasure of singing together in true worship unto God. Students will be required to learn to read music and be tested on music theory.
High School
Art
(9th- 12th Grade)
This course covers the elements and principles of design through the use of a wide range of art media. The student will learn that art is an integral part of our society and a powerful tool of communication and/or ministry. The student will learn to express him/herself and glorify God through artwork as he/she experiments with various art mediums through the course of time. The goal is to gain technical skill and master mediums of the student's choice. The interpretive and perceptive skills of the student will develop as he/she discovers the elements of form, space, color/value, line and texture through different visual experiences. The student will gain some understanding of how art has evolved through the years and learn to identify different styles and be able to relate them to their periods.
Art II
(10th–12th Grade)
The student will continue to develop in artistic skill and areas of artistic strength. This class will also do some yearbook design as part of the course work.
Band
(9th - 12th Grade)
Assuming students have learned the basic techniques necessary to play an instrument competently, they will further develop their skills and demonstrate their abilities with opportunities for performances and competitions.
Choir
(9th - 12th Grade)
The 9th-12th grade choir will build on the skills that were introduced in the 6th-8th grade choir. Students will be given opportunities to perform, participate in school dramas and musicals and enter various competitions. Students will be taught and tested on music theory.
Yearbook
(By Invitation 9th– 12th Grade)
Students in this course work on producing the school yearbook for the full year. The first 2 - 3 months being trained in the skills necessary for yearbook production, with the remainder of the year in actual production of the yearbook. Students will learn basic copywriting, photography, and production techniques used in the field of print journalism. Students will learn responsibility through meeting deadlines and in producing a product for the entire school.
